Wheelwright’s traveler, unmarked

Description

This wheelwright’s traveler is clearly a manufactured item, and I’ve seen a few just like it pictured on the Internet, but the maker remains unknown. There is a little bit of storage rust and what looks like a tiny casting flaw near the 3/4″ mark.  The wooden handle is in excellent condition.

The traveler was a specialized blacksmith’s tool used to measure the circumference of a wheel, after which the measurement was transferred to a piece of strap iron used to form the wheel’s “tire”.
