Description
This plane is in good working condition. The rosewood tote is free from breaks, but (as you can see in the photo) the horn has been sliced off. I suspect this was done deliberately to allow the cutter adjustment to clear the tote, making it much easier to adjust. A similar, deliberate-looking slice has been taken off the front knob; the purpose is a little harder to figure out but my guess is that it was done to make it easier to use the plane with a shooting board. The user has drilled a hang hole at the toe of the plane, which like all user-made hang holes is off-center. There’s about 2 inches left on the cutter, plenty for years of use. Japanning is about 60% there, with the usual absence at the toe and heel.
