Description
An unusually small rip-claw hammer by David Maydole of Norwich, NY — the inventor of the modern adze-eye hammer. The head is only 3-1/2″ from the face to the end of the rip claw, and the whole thing weighs under 6 ounces. I’ve never seen a Maydole hammer this small before.
Handle appears original and is well-anchored. One side has some pitting, probably from poor storage. Striking face is clean. One claw appears to have had about 1/8″ either snapped or ground off the end. Still a very unusual piece.
