Description
This scraper, patented by one John Vasey, seems to be the forerunner of later scrapers made by Starrett and others. It uses a simple patented mechanism to hold the cutter, and has a twist-release ball joint for adjusting the angle of the handle to the cutter. Unlike the later Starrett, the ball joint does not operate freely, but restricts the handle to rotation in one plane (it’s in a slot, similar to some modern camera mounts)
This one’s in great condition — operates smoothly, plenty of cutter left, and the handle is really comfortable to use. The original “hot dog” handle for the top of the cutter is missing, so you’ll need to make your own.
