Description
Roughly equivalent to the Stanley #51, these were made by Leonard Bailey from roughly 1850 to 1870 — it’s hard to pin down dates because of his on-and-off relationships with various partners and with the Stanley Rule and Level Company.
This one has a replaced yoke screw (a modern Philips head). The patent date and “Leonard Bailey’s Patent” are cast into the handles. As is usual with spokeshaves, most of the original finishes have worn off the handles. It’s a good shave, distinguished by Bailey’s name .
