Douglass Mfg. Co. (DM Co) 1-1/4″ gouge, #5 sweep

Description

Sturdy socket-handled gouge.  Handle appears original.  6″ left to shoulder.  Sharpened out-cannel.  The edge has small nicks and will need some work.  Likely made in CT between 1856 and 1894, though the Douglass Manufacturing Company is a little confusing and mysterious (there were three, at least, and nobody knows how they were connected).
