Description
D.H. Prutton was a fairly obscure toolmaker located in Cleveland, Ohio. Relatively little is known about the company — what there is, you can find here: https://sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?248470-Prutton-Tool-Company . This one has a stained hardwood knob and tote, both in good condition, and a fairly heavy casting, similar to the Stanley wartime models. The adjustment knob is made of steel. The lever cap has a number of micro-chips on the leading edge, clearly the result of the (fairly common) bad habit of using the lever cap as a screwdriver to tighten down the lever cap screw. This has the same advantage that the Stanley wartime models do — the heavier casting causes the plane to “sit down” better on the work, which is a help when smoothing.
