Description
A clean example of a 3/8″ side bead. Very unusual in that the A.E. Baldwin mark has been overstruck with the Arrowmammet Works mark — the companies were the same, but very few examples of overstrikes have been reported, none of them side beads. The overstrike dates the plane to within a couple of years of 1841.
The plane is in above-average condition, with a few stains. The wedge has very little damage, far less than usual. The cutter is well-kept. The boxing has shrunk a little, as often happens, and is rounded a little at the toe (as is the body of the plane). A solid worker, and a bit of a rarity if you’re an Arrowmammet collector.
