Description
More or less a copy of the Stanley #5C, this well-made jack plane comes from the Bridge Tool Company of St. Louis. Knob and tote are in very good condition (looks like they’re maple or apple); japan in bed is about 75% — looks like Bridge’s japanning process was prone to flaking at the toe and heel. The casting seems a little heavier than a Stanley, and the plane does not have a frog adjuster.
Bridge tool’s sourcing isn’t clear. The brand was a second brand of the Shapleigh Hardware Company (also the owners of Diamond Edge), but it’s not clear who actually made the tools.
