Description
The “type unknown” is there because, while this has all the other characteristics of a type 3, the frog has a lateral adjuster, which was not added until type 5. I suspect somebody switched out the frog, likely because it was missing or broken.
Stanley #7 jointer plane in overall very good condition. Rosewood knob and tote are in excellent condition, with only some minor chipping on the horn of the tote. There’s a glue drip and some small spatters of paint on the tote. The japanning in the bed is likewise in very good condition, again with some paint drips. Unfortunately, somebody drilled a hang hole in the bed near the heel and, as usual, it’s off-center. There’s a small crater in the sole about 3″ from the toe — it appears to me to be a casting flaw and will not affect use. The cutter’s a little short, with about 2″ left, but that should not pose any kind of problem. This thing’s in great condition for something that is a century-and-a-half old. Recommended.
