Stanley #4C plane, uncertain vintage

Description

I’m guessing this beast is a Frankenplane.   It appears to be a Type 8, but if so, the lever cap and the front knob aren’t right.   Wooden tote in excellent condition with a minor chip out of the horn.  Front knob has a good sized chip at the bottom.  Japanning in the bed near 100%.  Cutter is in good condition  and there’s plenty left.  At most one patent date on the lateral adjuster.   A puzzler, and sort of a mutt,  but also a pretty good worker plane at a reasonable price.
